Discs and equipment: the rules explained
Throw PDGA-approved, clearly marked discs with no cracks or holes. Gloves, tape and grip aids are fine; devices that help you throw or aim are not.
Rules covered
813.01, 813.02. Summaries follow the PDGA Official Rules, 2026 edition.
813.01Legal discs
In PDGA play every disc must be PDGA approved. Wear from play, light sanding, dye and markers are fine. Changes that alter how it flies, heavy sanding, a layer of paint, or a crack or hole make a disc illegal. Throwing an illegal disc costs two penalty throws.

813.01Mark your discs
Discs you throw must be clearly marked, like with your name or PDGA number; mini markers are the exception. The first throw with an unmarked disc gets a warning, then each throw with one costs a penalty throw.

813.02Gadgets and aids
You can’t use a device that directly helps you throw, or set an object down to help you aim. Gloves, tape, bandages, braces, chalk and other grip aids are fine, and you may put a towel or pad up to 1 cm thick under a supporting point. Using an illegal device costs two penalty throws.
